Sketch (cont.)

This is represent happiness. Using natural
to represent happiness. This is the
upgrade version of the previous work.

This is represent fear. It is reflect how the
mental patient mind look like.
From my lecturer Mr. Ben review,
he said it is good, but suggest me
to add more detail on it.

This one is represent loneliness. Inspire by the
little match girl story. A match girl is silently
sitting under the dead tree. The leg with
window on it is suppose to represent how
people live inside their comfort
house while ignoring this poor
little girl. At the button there is a snake.
The snake need to change to something
as snake is quite a common symbol
of evil.

Sketching (cont.)

I do not have any idea what this
suppose to represent when I sketch,
because I have no idea about
anything, so I just sketch something
out hopefully to have something.

This is represent happiness. I thing this
sketch has potential. Will improve it
it in the future.

This is represent loneliness. But this one is
too abstract to understand. Will either improve it
or completely change it.

This is suppose to represent fear. But it turn out
this one seems to complicated and gory, and
does not look like fear at all.

Sketching

Now is the time to start sketching.

The progress is a bit slow because there are other tasks I need to focus.
But when I have a little free time I will usually start to sketching idea.

This is represent sadness. The rotten
corpse/skeleton is actually a giant
dead baby, like a dream that is
cannot to archive and dead.

This is suppose to represent lonely, but I do not
know how it can relate to lonely. Not include
this in the final artwork.

Tryout

Doodling before jump into the sketch part.

The doodling is part of my "tryout to know how should I applied the style to my final art work.

Doodling out with the style.
Left is cross-hatching style,
right is geometric style

This is suppose to represent "chill", but
this one is quite cheesy.

I find this greatly represent stress.
I am looking forward to apply
this into my final artwork in the future.
This heart is inspire by an item I found on
an anime.

"The Behelit"

The other doodling.

Again, this is also greatly represent stress.
Also looking forward to apply this style
into my future artwork.

Another doodling.

This one is too Tim Burton-ish style, I might
include it to my final artwork.

This monster is inspire by Edward Gorey monster.
The hatching style from Edward Gorey is really good.
Looking forward to include it into my final
artwork in the future.

Choosing a style

Choosing a style

After finish the brief, it is time for choosing which style should I follow for my project, since I do not have any personal style for my illustration.

There are two style I have choose, the first is the Tim Burton style illustration, the second is Edward Gorey style illustration. Both style offer a creepy feel to their illustration, but there are little different: Tim Burton style is kind of joyful/cheerful while Edward Gorey has a really morbid feel compare to Tim Burton style
.

Style of the 2 artist:

Tim Burton

Edward Gorey

The outline of the assignment:

In this assignment, we are given the opportunity to develop our
own idea and launch it as a real-life showcase. We are encourage to
write our project brief. The deadline of the project is 13 weeks, which
mean 3 month, the whole semester.
